Testing Similar Means

چکیده
We consider the problem of testing a basic property of collections of distributions: having similar means. Namely, the algorithm should accept collections of distributions in which all distributions have means that do not differ by more than some given parameter, and should reject collections that are relatively far from having this property. By ‘far’ we mean that it is necessary to modify the distributions in a relatively significant manner (measured according to the `1 distance averaged over the distributions) so as to obtain the property. We study this problem in two models. In the first model (the query model) the algorithm may ask for samples from any distribution of its choice, and in the second model (the sampling model) the distributions from which it gets samples are selected randomly. We provide upper and lower bounds in both models. In particular, in the query model, the complexity of the problem is polynomial in 1/2 (where 2 is the given distance parameter). While in the sampling model, the complexity grows roughly as m1−poly(2), where m is the number of distributions. ∗School of Computer Science, Tel Aviv University. Tel Aviv 69978, Israel. متن کاملEvaluation of Dynamic Probing Testing Effect in Hand Excavated Pit on Test Results Using Numerical Modeling
In Iran, using the hand excavated pits (wells) have been more common compared to other countries. As a matter of fact, recent years, utilizing the dynamic probing test (DPT) in these types of pits has been significantly developed in Iran. This is while the standard state of doing this test is from the ground level. In this work, the dynamic probing test is carried out in two similar wells with ...
متن کاملLINEAR HYPOTHESIS TESTING USING DLR METRIC
Several practical problems of hypotheses testing can be under a general linear model analysis of variance which would be examined. In analysis of variance, when the response random variable Y , has linear relationship with several random variables X, another important model as analysis of covariance can be used. In this paper, assuming that Y is fuzzy and using DLR metric, a method for testing ...
متن کاملTESTING STATISTICAL HYPOTHESES UNDER FUZZY DATA AND BASED ON A NEW SIGNED DISTANCE
This paper deals with the problem of testing statisticalhypotheses when the available data are fuzzy. In this approach, wefirst obtain a fuzzy test statistic based on fuzzy data, and then, based on a new signed distance between fuzzy numbers, we introducea new decision rule to accept/reject the hypothesis of interest. The proposed approach is investigated for two cases: the casewithout nuisance p...
متن کاملComparing k-means clusters on parallel Persian-English corpus
This paper compares clusters of aligned Persian and English texts obtained from k-means method. Text clustering has many applications in various fields of natural language processing. So far, much English documents clustering research has been accomplished. Now this question arises, are the results of them extendable to other languages? Since the goal of document clustering is grouping of docum...
